Texas native Sunny Sweeney is following up her 2014 release of Provoked, with Trophy, an album packed with tracks that showcase her singer-songwriting skills in a more personal manner.

Multiple collaborations contribute to the album’s personal touch. Sweeney co-wrote the majority of the new album’s material with female writers — including four songs with Grammy Award-winning folk star Lori McKenna. The results? Songs that capture the feminine experience with a combination of nuance, humor, and accuracy only possible from artists as keenly observant and empathetic as Sweeney and her collaborators.

“There’s a lot of personal stuff on this record,” Sweeney says in press material for Trophy. “I feel like the songs that get the strongest reaction are the ones that are the most truthful — the ones that have emotion. That’s my job as a writer: to evoke some kind of emotion. I want everybody who hears this album to come away with something, whether it’s to feel like they’re not alone or inspired or like they want to laugh. I just want them to feel something.”

Album highlights include the grungy country twang song “Why People Change” and the heart-wrenching “Unsaid.” If you’re a fan of traditional country music that’s pure and vulnerable, be sure to check out Sweeney’s new album, Trophy, available on March 10.
