Congratulations to filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Cowboys & Indians cover guy Leonardo DiCaprio. The director and star of The Revenant loomed large among the nominees announced Thursday for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards.
The Revenant — Iñárritu’s gritty and gripping period drama based on the exploits of legendary 19th-century frontiersman Hugh Glass — was honored by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in a total of four Golden Globe categories: Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama (DiCaprio); Best Director — Motion Picture (Iñárritu); and Best Original Score (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alva Noto, Bryce Dessner).

Iñárritu expressed his gratitude in a prepared statement:

Also worth noting: The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino’s controversial western drama, scored three Golden Globe nominations: Best Screenplay — Motion Picture (Tarantino), Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Best Original Score (Ennio Morricone).
Winners of the 73rd annual Golden Globes will be announced during a January 10 telecast hosted by Ricky Gervais on NBC.
